Daehaeng-Seon Studies

: To make scholarly achievements more easily accessible and available to the wider community, solid ideas should be established based on systematic research, and this kind of research requires time and effort.

The Myogong Scholarly Award was established to provide researchers an opportunity to focus on academic projects to encourage creative scholarly achievements, thereby contributing to the development of Daehaeng Seon and research into Buddhist studies. Professional researchers (Ph.D. required) can apply, and papers are sought in diverse.

fields of Buddhist studies, including the teachings of Seon Master Daehaeng. Excellent papers are chosen to receive awards based on meticulous screening.

The Myogong Scholarship is offered to pass on the philosophy and edification activities of Myogong Seon Master Daehaeng, and to promote them far and wide.
The Scholarship was established to empower general researchers (graduate students) who study Ven. Daehaeng’s teachings and subjects related to Buddhist studies. Papers are solicited once a year to identify great talent and help them develop as future leaders of Daehaeng Seon and the Buddhist academic community.

Qualification to Apply

Those enrolled in or who have completed their graduate program who are either studying subjects or planning a paper (including degree thesis) related to Daehaeng Seon

: Held every quarter, the Seasonal Presentation provides a venue for refining one’s studies based on scholastic discussions of major research topics.

Through the experience of interacting and sharing, these presentations aim to expand the foundation for the development of Buddhist studies.

The Presentation invites diverse professional researchers involved in all areas of Buddhist studies and provides a forum to present research achievements focused on diverse subjects of study.

The Presentation induces lively discussions and comments from lay Buddhists as well as scholars so that barriers between study and practice can be broken down, and Daehaeng Seon, which advocates practice in everyday life, can be promoted.

: Held annually, the Academic Conference gives presentations on major topics related to Daehaeng Seon and Buddhist studies and minor topics related to areas of interest for each presenter. In this way the Daehaeng Seon Institute wants to provide new academic paradigms based on dynamic discussions.

By inviting renowned scholars the Conference provides a macroscopic platform for academic exchanges about Daehaeng Seon, Buddhist studies and related fields. In this way it encourages scholastic interaction based on extensive research achievement to guide the future direction of studies into Daehaeng Seon and the Buddhist academic community.

Hanmaum Research is a professional publication put out by the Daehaeng Seon Institute that presents research papers on Buddhist studies. It contains academic achievements related to Daehaeng Seon and Buddhism.

The Daehaeng Seon Institute performs diverse academic research activities throughout the year to study and promote Ven. Daehaeng’s thoughts and edification activities and to promote Buddhist studies. From the research papers produced from these activities and from papers submitted during the year, we carefully select papers and publish them in Hanmaum Research twice a year.
